The Nelson Jazz Collective featuring Mike Fahie

November 30, 2024

Some of Canada’s best jazz musicians come from the small west Kootenay town of Nelson, BC. The Collective, led by bassist Rob Fahie includes pianist David Restivo and guitarist Mike Rud. They collaborate to perform original compositions and arrangements at a high level. They also provide a base for guest performers such as New-York-City-based trombonist Mike Fahie. As well as releasing three albums under his own name, Mike is the lead trombonist of several jazz ensembles in New York, including the four-time Grammy-nominated Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society. Mike has many albums, Broadway, and movie soundtrack credits to his name. He is also the principal trombonist of the Grammercy Brass Orchestra of New York and has been on the faculty of the United Nations International School for over 20 years. Mike was a finalist for the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Trombone Competition, and was the first ever Canadian Fulbright Scholar in jazz. Audiences can expect inspired performances on a cross-section of music composed and curated by Mike, informed by his 20-plus-year career as a professional jazz musician in the world’s #1 location for jazz and improvised music. Mike’s recordings as a leader incorporate elements of modern and free jazz, but also include his strong affinity for classical music. The ensemble will endeavor to provide the audience with a true New York City jazz club experience, without having to leave the beautiful BC interior!
