Mike Allen’s Montreal Reunion Band

October 14, 2023

“We all started out in Montreal together as part of the McGill Jazz Studies program, learning, growing and playing together before eventually all finding our way west to B.C.”

Mike Allen is a tremendously gifted and prolific jazz artist who resides in Vancouver. The tenor saxophonist is nothing shy of legendary on the Canadian jazz scene. His mastery of the complexities of sound is instantly palpable in his work. His music is profoundly intimate, intuitively gentle yet truly powerful. Mike eloquently speaks the difficult language of jazz and makes it look easy.

Mike Allen originals can be heard on recent albums such as Just Like Magic (Cellar Live) and Panorama (Cellar Live). Check out Mike’s craft; www.mikeallenjazz.com and see you there!

Steve Kaldestad moved to Vancouver in 2008 and has become one of the most in-demand saxophonists on the scene. Steve has released 3 CDs on the Cellar Live label to great acclaim including Straight Up featuring the Mike LeDonne Trio and the newest release, New York Afternoon with the Renee Rosnes Trio.

Mike Rud is a Juno award-winning jazz guitarist and songwriter.   Mike will be on our stage with his trio on October 28th. Another “not to miss” performance from this guitar master.

The rhythm section for this powerhouse quintet is made up of; Dave Robbins, who is one of Canada’s premier jazz drummers and a first-rate composer, arranger and jazz educator and Steve Holy on bass whose expertise and chops makes him an in-demand artist.
